Kathmand/ Nepal’s clean energy landscape received global recognition as Gham Power was officially named one of the ten global winners of the 2025 Keeling Curve Prize, an international award honoring innovative and high-impact solutions in the fight against climate change.
The announcement was made during the TED Countdown Summit held in Nairobi, Kenya, where global leaders, innovators, and sustainability champions gathered to spotlight cutting-edge ideas and actions to combat the climate crisis. Gham Power was selected under the Energy category, receiving a $50,000 prize to further scale its distributed solar energy initiatives across Nepal.
Founded with a mission to promote clean energy access in rural and underserved regions, Gham Power has installed over 4,000 solar projects, powering homes, businesses, farms, health centers, and schools. Its innovative model, combining solar technology with financing solutions, has proven effective in providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to some of Nepal’s most vulnerable communities.
Gham Power was chosen from a competitive pool of over 2,500 global applicants, standing out for its work in reducing carbon emissions, replacing polluting diesel generators, and building climate resilience across diverse sectors — from agriculture and health to education and small industries.
“This global recognition is not just an honor for Gham Power, but a proud moment for all of Nepal,” said company representatives. “It validates our belief that community-led, clean energy solutions can accelerate climate action and unlock socio-economic progress.”
The Keeling Curve Prize, named after the iconic graph that tracks the rise of atmospheric carbon dioxide, is awarded annually to initiatives that significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions or increase carbon uptake.
As climate risks intensify, Gham Power’s achievement underscores Nepal’s growing role in global climate leadership and the transformative power of decentralized renewable energy.
